uDraw Pictionary: Ultimate Edition
An adaptation of the tabletop game Pictionary, designed to work with THQ’s uDraw GameTablet peripheral.
Description
uDraw Pictionary: Ultimate Edition part of THQ’s push to expand the uDraw GameTablet beyond its original Wii audience. It adapted the classic party game Pictionary into a digital format, with players using the stylus and tablet to sketch clues while teammates attempted to guess the word or phrase. The “Ultimate Edition” branding reflected a more feature‑rich package compared to the earlier Wii‑only Pictionary release. It included multiple drawing modes, themed word lists, and mini‑game variations designed to keep sessions lively. The console versions benefited from HD output and online leaderboards, but the core appeal remained family‑friendly living‑room play, with the tablet acting as a modern twist on pen‑and‑paper guessing.
While the concept is faithful to the board game and accessible for families, the requirement of the uDraw peripheral seems unnecessary. The whole uDraw series left substantial unsold stock of both the tablet and its software that ultimately contributed to THQ’s mounting financial problems. This miscalculation compounded other financial pressures the company was already facing, contributing greatly to THQ’s collapse.
