Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (Day One Edition)

A cyberpunk role‑playing adventure that continues the story of Adam Jensen while shifting the series into a darker, more fractured world. It blends stealth, shooting, and dialogue choice with a focus on discrimination, conspiracy, and the ethics of human augmentation.

Description

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is set in 2029, two years after the events of Human Revolution. Following the catastrophic “Aug Incident,” in which augmented humans lost control of their bodies and caused mass casualties, society has entered an era of “mechanical apartheid.” Augmented people are segregated, policed, and treated with suspicion. Jensen, now working with Interpol in Prague, secretly acts as a double agent for the hacker collective Juggernaut while investigating terrorist attacks and uncovering the Illuminati’s hidden influence. The narrative unfolds through branching dialogue, side missions, and moral choices that shape how events play out.

The game refines the series’ hybrid design: players can approach missions through stealth, hacking, or direct combat, with Jensen’s new augmentations offering expanded options such as remote hacking, Titan armour, and the Icarus Dash. Prague serves as the central hub, with missions branching into surrounding districts and off‑site locations. A separate mode, Breach, presents cyberspace‑themed challenge levels, while story DLCs like System Rift and A Criminal Past expand on side narratives.

Mankind Divided was well received for its dense level design, flexible gameplay systems, and the atmosphere of its Prague hub. However, it was also criticised for a truncated main story, abrupt ending, and the sense that larger plotlines were left unresolved. Many players felt it functioned more as the first act of a bigger narrative than a complete experience, leaving it overshadowed by the stronger cohesion of Human Revolution. Despite its commercial success, the lack of a further sequel purely for business reasons leaves a sour taste in the mouth for what should be a celebrated series.
