Description

Mario Classic Colours amiibo captures Mario in the running pose used throughout his first Mushroom Kingdom adventure, translating the blocky proportions and restricted colour palette of the original sprite directly into plastic. His red overalls, brown shirt, red cap, dark moustache, and stepped silhouette preserve the visual character of him on the Famicom/NES, becoming a defining character of computer games. It was one of the most immediately recognisable early amiibo designs.

The figure contains a rewritable NFC chip that communicates with compatible systems when placed on an amiibo touchpoint. In Super Mario Maker, scanning it adds the Big Mushroom course element, which enlarges Mario and gives enemies playful Mario-themed appearances, while also unlocking a corresponding Mystery Mushroom costume. Other software generally recognises it as a Mario amiibo, enabling functions such as a Mario-themed Mii racing suit in Mario Kart 8, an evolving computer-controlled Figure Player in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, amiibo Party support in Mario Party 10, a Mario-patterned Yoshi in Yoshi’s Woolly World, and character-specific content across compatible Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch titles.
