Chainsaw Controller
A novelty controller released for Resident Evil 4. I don’t know why, but I purchased of two of these, then never used or sold them. Apparently limited to 50,000 units.
Description
The GameCube chainsaw controller is a licensed novelty peripheral produced by NubyTech to coincide with Resident Evil 4’s (Biohazard 4) launch, styled as a miniature chainsaw with the full set of GameCube inputs hidden in its body. The yellow GameCube variant houses twin analog sticks, face buttons, shoulder triggers and a Start button arranged on the saw’s grips and body; the plastic blade is decorative only and does not move. Design choices focused on matching the look of the in‑game prop over ergonomic layout, so many controls are placed awkwardly (shoulder and trigger inputs sit under or perpendicular to the grips), making conventional two‑thumb play awkward for precise aiming or fast action.
Developed and marketed primarily as a collectible tie‑in rather than a performance controller, it was produced in limited numbers and positioned as a promotional item for fans of the title. It sold as a quirky, high‑visibility accessory that boosted publicity and interest, but it was never a replacement for a standard GameCube for playing the game.
