Prince of Persia

A cinematic platformer adaptation that refines the original’s rotoscoped animation and dungeon puzzles, extending the quest with expanded levels and atmospheric design. It embodies themes of urgency, precision, and the timeless struggle against tyranny within a stylised vision of ancient Persia.

Description

Prince of Persia on the Super Nintendo is a cinematic styled platformer that combines precise movement, sword-based combat, and puzzle-solving within a richly animated Arabian Nights setting. You play through deadly traps, guarded corridors, and labyrinthine dungeons to rescue a princess within a strict time limit, requiring both careful exploration and quick reflexes.

Compared to the original 1989 Apple II version, the SNES port is distinctive for its expanded scope. Unlike the original’s strict 60‑minute limit, the SNES version allows up to 120 minutes, offering more levels and challenges. Players encounter not only sword‑wielding enemies and deadly pitfalls but also the protagonist’s doppelgänger, conjured from a magic mirror, which complicates the journey. The game’s twelve core levels are extended in this version, and the enhanced graphics and sound capabilities of the SNES give the adventure a more atmospheric quality.

Prince of Persia introduced a quality of animation to games. The SNES port stands out as one of the most polished and ambitious adaptations of the classic title.
