Stereo AV Cable
A generic Stereo AV cable for Mega Drive 2 and 32X.
Description
The stereo AV cable for the Mega Drive II and 32X was a straightforward connector designed to carry both picture and sound from the system to a television. One end featured the 9‑pin mini‑DIN plug that fit into the console’s AV output, while the other end split into three RCA plugs: yellow for composite video and red and white for left and right stereo audio. Its sole function was to provide a direct, reliable path for the console’s output so that games could be displayed with clear video and stereo sound, avoiding the need for an RF connection.
The official variant of this third party cable became the default, bundled, option with the 32X but in many markets Mega Drive II consoles still included an inferior RF cable. Consequently third party cables, like this one, became commonplace.
