Sonic CD is a fast-paced 2D platformer that extends the classic Sonic formula with time travel mechanics and animated cutscenes. You play through zones across four time periods—past, present, good future, and bad future—affecting level design and outcomes based on your actions. Featuring a dynamic CD-quality soundtrack (with different versions in Japan and North America), smooth scaling effects, and animated intros by Toei Animation, Sonic CD is widely regarded as one of the most innovative and stylistically distinct entries in the series. In Australia, the game was later bundled with other titles such as Sega Arcade Classics.
