A comprehensive multimedia archive for Sakura Taisen fans that delivers exclusive FMV interviews, character galleries, and digital stationery that expand on the world of the Flower Division.
Description
Sakura Taisen: Hanagumi Tsūshin (Sakura Wars: Flower Division Communication) is a dedicated multimedia fan disc, it serves as a digital companion to the original Sakura Taisen, providing fans with an extensive archive of character data, behind‑the‑scenes content, and interactive features that were not possible within the main game’s structure. The experience centres on a interface where you navigate various “communication” channels.
The disc features a comprehensive Character Database containing detailed profiles, costume galleries, and trivia for the entire Flower Division cast. A major draw is the inclusion of exclusive FMV sequences, including interviews with the voice actresses (the Teikoku Kagekidan) and promotional footage from the series’ live stage shows. The atmosphere is celebratory and immersive, maintaining the steampunk–Taishō aesthetic that defined the franchise’s early success.
On a mechanical level, the title includes several interactive elements designed to increase fan engagement. It features a Digital Stationery suite that allows you to create and save custom messages using series‑themed borders and icons, originally intended for sharing via the Saturn’s save‑data tools. The technical framework prioritises high‑quality audio and visual assets, utilising the Saturn’s internal clock to trigger seasonal greetings from the characters. The disc also contains a variety of mini‑theatre segments and a library of the series’ iconic musical tracks, which can be played directly through the console’s internal player.
Upon release, Sakura Taisen: Hanagumi Tsūshin was a significant commercial success, capitalising on the massive popularity of the first game and wider franchise. Reviewers highlighted the depth of the archive and the quality of the FMV content, noting that it was a must‑have for dedicated fans. Today, it reflects a period when fan discs were a vital way for developers to expand a game’s universe and reward its growing community.
