Knowledge is Power
A stylised quiz show where two to six players use smartphones or tablets as controllers to answer trivia questions and complete linking or sorting challenges
Description
Knowledge is Power is a party quiz game as part of the PlayLink range for PlayStation 4. It was released alongside other PlayLink titles such as Hidden Agenda and SingStar: Celebration. The game presents itself as a stylised quiz show, with players represented by puppet‑like characters who climb the so‑called Pyramid of Knowledge.
Each player connects to the PlayStation 4 using a smartphone or tablet via a free companion app, which serves as the controller. Up to six players can compete in each session, answering multiple‑choice questions, completing linking and sorting challenges, and ultimately racing to the top of the pyramid in a finale round that rewards both speed and accuracy.
A defining feature of the game is the use of “Power Plays,” which allow players to either help themselves or sabotage their opponents before each question. These effects include freezing answers in blocks of ice, covering them in slime that must be wiped away, or obscuring them with timed explosions. This mechanic adds a mischievous, competitive edge to what might otherwise be a straightforward trivia contest, ensuring that knowledge alone is not always enough to secure victory.
The presentation is colourful and playful, with a stop‑motion aesthetic and a light‑hearted tone that makes the game accessible to a wide audience. It did well to appeal to non‑gamers with the ease of using smartphones as controllers and the social atmosphere it created. However some people felt the pacing was slow and that the trivia leaned toward casual rather than challenging. Although that also sounds like criticisms by people who don’t have friends to play with. Retrospectively, Knowledge is Power was one of the flagship PlayLink titles, reflecting Sony’s attempt to position the PlayStation 4 as a living‑room hub for group entertainment.
PS4 Pro support based upon patch metadata.
