VED
A story-driven RPG with turn-based combat and roguelite elements with a hand-drawn art style.
Description
VED follows a young protagonist named Cyrus who arrives in the city of Micropolis and discovers he can teleport to a magical alternate dimension. This secondary world features flying islands, strange creatures, and unique factions. The gameplay experience is split across several mechanics.
The game heavily focuses on a non-linear story involving dialogue trees, relationship building with different factions, and choices that lead to irreversible consequences and alternative endings. Players navigate branching paths involving twenty-sided dice-roll checks to resolve events, upgrade abilities, and build a village hub for allies. Battles take place on a stage divided into four sections. Moving Cyrus between these zones dictates which attacks can be performed, while also altering critical hit chances and evasion rates.
Critical reception for VED has been mixed. Reviewers generally praised the striking hand-drawn art style, the underlying world lore, and the strategic nature of the positional combat. However, the game drew criticism for its execution of the story, with reviewers noting stunted dialogue, translation issues, and an occasionally confusing or disjointed narrative delivery.
