FIFA 10
A portable, fully licensed football game, offering Manager Mode, wireless multiplayer, and authentic teams and leagues. Though technically limited by the PSP hardware and based on the PS2 engine, it was considered one of the best handheld football titles available in 2009.
Description
FIFA 10 was positioned as a handheld companion to the mainline console releases. The PSP edition was developed by the same team responsible for the PS2 and PC versions, while EA Canada handled the high‑definition consoles. The game retained FIFA’s hallmark licensing depth, featuring over 30 leagues, 500+ teams, and dozens of national sides, ensuring authenticity across its modes. Players could engage in Manager Mode, which allowed control over transfers, finances, and squad management, alongside quick play and tournament options. The PSP version also supported local wireless multiplayer, though online play was limited compared to the console editions.
Technically, the PSP version was built on the PS2 engine, meaning it lacked the advanced physics and animation systems introduced on PS3 and Xbox 360. Nevertheless, it offered improved AI, ball control, and player positioning over FIFA 09 on PSP, making it one of the stronger handheld football experiences of its time. Commentary was provided by Clive Tyldesley and Andy Gray, and the game included the full licensed FIFA 10 soundtrack, featuring artists such as Passion Pit, Metric, and Major Lazer. While the PSP edition could not match the realism of the HD consoles, it delivered a robust and content‑rich football sim on the go, with enough depth to satisfy handheld players.
