Hatsune Miku -Project DIVA- 2nd
A rhythm game and the second entry in the Project DIVA series, expanding the song list, gameplay mechanics, and customisation options while refining the formula that made the original a success.
Description
Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA 2nd builds on the foundation of the first Project DIVA title, offering a larger and more polished rhythm game experience on the PSP. Players press buttons in time with on‑screen prompts to perform Vocaloid songs, primarily featuring Hatsune Miku but also including other Crypton Vocaloid characters such as Kagamine Rin and Len, Megurine Luka, Kaito, and Meiko.
The game introduces new mechanics, including simultaneous button presses and “hold” notes, adding complexity to the rhythm gameplay. The tracklist is expanded with over 70 songs, combining returning favourites from the first game with new compositions created by the Vocaloid community. Each song is accompanied by a music video rendered in 3D, showcasing Miku and other characters in themed outfits and environments.
Customisation is a major feature. Players can unlock costumes (known as “modules”) for each Vocaloid, decorate rooms, and interact with characters in the “Diva Room,” a virtual space where Miku and others respond to gifts and player actions. This adds a layer of simulation and personalisation beyond the rhythm gameplay.
Technically, Project DIVA 2nd improves on the visuals and performance of the original PSP release, with smoother animations and more detailed models. The soundtrack, built from Vocaloid compositions, highlights the diversity of the community’s music, ranging from pop and rock to electronic and ballads.
The expanded song list, refined mechanics, and deeper customisation, was a significant step forward for the series. It cemented Project DIVA as a flagship rhythm franchise for Sega and helped propel Hatsune Miku into wider global recognition.
