AC Adapter

The official Australian AC adapter for the Nintendo Entertainment System. It outputs 9V AC at 1.3A, designed specifically for the PAL‑A (Australian) NES consoles.

This item might be in error, possibly this is a newer revision of the NES-002E(AUS).

Description

The NES‑002A‑AUS is the Australian‑market AC-AC Adapter for the Nintendo Entertainment System. This unit was also distributed with early Super Nintendo hardware.

Input: AC 240V 50Hz 17W; Output: AC 9V 1.8A.

Notably, PAL SNES consoles are tolerant of AC input because they contain the rectifier and regulator internally. The NTSC SNES has a centre‑pin connector, while the PAL SNES uses a barrel connector. The PAL console will also run safely on a comparable DC supply (around 9–10V, ≥850mA, centre‑negative). Internally it is regulating it down to the 5V the console actually uses. Because of this, the console doesn’t “care” whether the input is AC or DC — the rectifier will happily accept either and the system is forgiving, typically running fine on 8–12V DC as long as the current rating is sufficient (≥850mA).

The SNS‑002A‑AUS (10V DC, 850mA) became the standard in the mid‑1990s, especially as Nintendo unified supplies across SNES and Virtual Boy.
