Chaos Gear: Michibikareshi Mono

カオスギア みちびかれしもの

A strategy simulation based on Bandai’s Chaos Gear trading card universe, in which the player becomes a newly summoned Chaos Gainer and leads one of four rival factions in a world destabilised by the loss of its mysterious power source. Rather than a straightforward card battler, it reworks the property into a faction-driven conquest sim focused on castles, army management, and methodical tactical play.

Description

Chaos Gear: Michibikareshi Mono is set in a fantasy world where the power source known as Chaos has begun to run dry, throwing the land into instability and conflict. In the game’s backstory, earlier beings known as the “First Gainers” once restored order by creating Chaos, but after they vanished the world again splintered into warring powers, all awaiting the appearance of the prophesied “one who comes later.” The player is cast as a new Chaos Gainer, summoned into this fractured realm and drawn into a struggle among four competing factions: the machine-led De-Birth Empire, the spirit-wielding Mana kingdom, the beast folk Gaia tribe, and the enigmatic Ereal brigade.

Although based on Bandai’s earlier Chaos Gear trading card game, this WonderSwan adaptation is not a direct card-battle conversion but a more systems-driven simulation game. It is campaign-oriented strategy title built around castles, army organisation, phase-based progression, and conquest, with political and action phases, stage maps, faction-specific force composition, and hidden events. It faithfully recreates the world of the card game while adding original characters. The game included five special cards with early copies, making it both a stand-alone strategy title and a companion piece for fans of the broader property.

It is an interesting but demanding portable strategy game, ideal for players who enjoy careful faction management, unit match ups, and staged territorial expansion often praise its tactical depth. However do expect a slow tempo, rough balance, and minimal onboarding as barriers to entry. The game is mostly obscure today, reflecting Bandai’s frequent strategy to build out their existing franchises, in this case an unusual attempt to turn a niche TCG setting into a compact but quite serious handheld war simulation.
