Description
The Xbox One Play and Charge Kit is Microsoft’s official rechargeable power accessory designed to work with the Xbox One Wireless Controller. When the Xbox One launched, its controllers shipped with standard AA batteries. Microsoft released this optional Kit, which included a rechargeable battery pack that fits into the controller’s battery compartment and a USB charging cable that plugged into the console or any USB port. This allowed players to continue gaming while the battery recharged, effectively turning the wireless controller into a wired one during charging sessions. This was similar in function and design philosophy to the Xbox 360 Play and Charge Kit.
The battery is compatible with all Xbox One and Series X|S controller revisions. However the Series X|S revisions onward switched from USB Micro-B to USB-C requiring a different cable. The rechargeable pack provides around 20–30 hours of gameplay per charge, depending whether audio devices are used through the controller. A full recharge typically takes about 3–4 hours. The cable was about 2.7 metres (9 feet) long, giving players enough slack to sit comfortably while charging.
Unlike the Xbox 360 Play and Charge Kit, the Xbox One kit’s USB connection is capable of both power and data transfer. This means that when plugged in, the controller can operate in fully wired mode, transmitting inputs through the USB connection rather than relying solely on its 2.4 GHz wireless link.
