Xbox AV Cable
The standard audio-video cable supplied with the original Xbox console, designed for connecting the system to television sets and audio equipment.
Bundled in Set
Description
The Xbox AV Cable uses a proprietary connector on the console side to deliver composite video and analogue stereo audio through RCA connectors, compatible with most standard-definition TVs. It supports both NTSC and PAL regions and outputs a standard-definition 480i signal, making it the basic and default option for connecting the Xbox to televisions of its era.
The console’s AV port supports various cable types, including Composite (standard AV), S-Video (Advanced AV Pack), Component (High Definition AV Pack), and SCART (Advanced SCART Cable). Advanced cable packs also provide digital optical audio output for enhanced surround sound setups. The Xbox automatically detects the cable type via mode select pins, allowing it to switch between composite, S-Video, RGB, component, or RF outputs depending on the user’s setup and region. This basic AV Cable provides only basic composite video and stereo audio.
The composite AV Cable is simple, reliable, and was bundled with the console for easy setup. It enables output resolutions ranging from 480i (composite) to 1080i (component packs), making the Xbox adaptable for a range of televisions, from older CRTs to newer flat panels. Stereo RCA output is standard, while higher-end packs support Dolby Digital and surround sound.
