These USB cables adapt the Xbox control ports to USB, Although USB peripherals were not automatically compatible with the Xbox.
The official equivalent was the USB Keyboard Adapter, which plugged into a controller’s memory card slot. This was supplied with the Japanese Xbox Live Starter Kit for use with Phantasy Star Online. At least when I tested it, this cable wouldn’t work with PSO for that purpose.
The only real use for these cables is if the Xbox is jailbroken, with community software support for alternate input devices or removable storage support.
