Description
The Crew Wild Run Edition contains the original The Crew disc and a Wild Run expansion DLC code. The game is Ubisoft’s ambitious online‑only racing MMO, set across a massive open‑world recreation of the United States. The game’s defining feature was its persistent open world, a scaled‑down but geographically varied map of the contiguous U.S., divided into regions like the Midwest, East Coast, South, Mountain States, and West Coast. Players could free‑roam seamlessly across this environment, taking part in missions, challenges, and races. The Crew blended racing with RPG elements: cars could be customised and upgraded with different “specs” (street, dirt, performance, raid, circuit), and progression was tied to experience levels and skill unlocks.
The expansion’s centrepiece was The Summit, a recurring competition held at iconic U.S. locations where players could test their skills in stunts, races, and challenges. Alongside this, the edition included more than 70 licensed vehicles, over 200 tuning specs, and a 30‑hour story campaign. It also added new PvP modes, missions, and “Freedrive” activities across the game’s vast 5,000 km recreation of the United States.
The game was always online, requiring server connectivity even for solo play. This design drew criticism, as technical glitches and server instability marred the experience, and microtransactions were seen as intrusive. However, reviewers praised the sheer scale of the world and the freedom it offered. By early 2015, the game had shipped over two million units. The Wild Run Edition was released both digitally and at retail, and it effectively replaced the standalone expansion by packaging everything together. Ubisoft later delisted it from official storefronts, but physical copies remain collectible. Ubisoft shut down The Crew’s servers in March 2024, rendering it unplayable, which sparked controversy and campaigns against “killing” purchased games.
