A realistic F1–style racer offering 17 authentic circuits, deep driving physics, and multiple modes, but without official F1 driver or team licenses.

Description

Monaco Grand Prix: Racing Simulation 2 came to Dreamcast in early 1999 as a sequel to F1 Racing Simulation. It’s built around the 1997 Formula One season but, lacking the FIA license, uses fictional driver names and team branding. Ubisoft did secure the Automobile Club de Monaco license, allowing an accurate recreation of the Monaco Grand Prix and the use of real‑world sponsors like Schweppes and Castrol for added authenticity.

The game features 17 tracks, 11 teams, and 22 drivers through a broad selection of racing experiences across multiple modes. In Career Mode, you begin with a low‑tier team and work your way up to the top of the standings, while the Full Championship mode lets you compete across an entire season. Time Attack challenges you to set the fastest laps, and Scenarios recreate famous racing moments for you to relive. For a change of pace, the 1950s Retro Mode puts you behind the wheel of classic cars, and the Track Editor allows you to design and race on your own custom circuits.

It supports the Dreamcast steering wheel, vibration pack, and VMU, and offers 22 camera views, detailed telemetry, and physics tuned for realism over arcade handling. The game had good depth and authenticity but seemed less polished than F355 Challenge or Ubisoft’s own arcade-racing Speed Devils, it was substantially better overall than the Indy Car/CART equivalent Dreamcast title.
