A chaotic, mission‑based racer where the city is both a playground and demolition zone.
Description
Super Runabout, known as Super Runabout: San Francisco internationally is an over‑the‑top driving game set in a free‑roaming recreation of San Francisco. The game lets you choose between two story scenarios: one following a group of citizens, the other a team of police officers. Across 16 missions, you’ll be tasked with objectives like defusing bombs, stopping runaway cable cars, or collecting unusual items including hot dog ingredients. The twist is that you’re rewarded not just for speed, but for the amount of havoc you cause: smashing into cars, trolleys, and environmental objects earns you extra cash.
Players can drive more than 25 unlockable vehicles, from sports cars to scooters, each with distinct handling. The game’s physics encourage reckless fun, allowing you to plow through many obstacles, though some are oddly intangible. While it shares DNA with titles like Crazy Taxi, Super Runabout leans more into destruction and absurd mission setups, making it a cult favourite among fans of quirky Japanese arcade‑style racers. I really had a lot of fun with this in the day, it was open world chaos as we now take for granted in a time where the experience was quite new. The western release had some minor tweaks, which was later re-released in Japan.
