Description
The Wireless Controller (model 1708) is the third revision of the Xbox One controller. This third generation of the design was released with the mid-generation console revisions, the Xbox One S and Xbox One X consoles, in 2016. This was the default black colour option, although the controllers were made available in a large range of colours at retail, and could be custom ordered a near unlimited number of variations online.
The major improvement was the addition of Bluetooth allowing these controllers to be natively used on Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android devices without the need of the USB receiver for the proprietary wireless connection. It also had improved thumbsticks and triggers, continued the addition of a headphone jack added in the prior revision (model 1697), which the first revision (model 1537) lacked.
This third generation of Xbox One Wireless Controller was succeeded alongside the Xbox Series consoles launch. These introduced a fourth revision (model 1914), which added a share button and replaced the USB Micro-B port with USB-C.
