Outside Japan, Super Mario Bros. 2 refers to this North American developed game. In Japan, this game was known as Super Mario USA.
Description
This game is an adaptation of a Japanese game called Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic, with characters and assets modified to fit the Mario franchise. The original Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2 (released only in Japan at the time) was deemed too difficult for Western audiences. As a result, Nintendo of America opted to reskin Doki Doki Panic instead. The Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2 was later released internationally as the Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels in various compilations, starting from Super Mario All-Stars on the Super Nintendo.
