Pokémon Gold Version
ポケットモンスター 金The first half of Generation II, expanding the series beyond Kanto into the new Johto region, introducing 100 additional Pokémon and a host of mechanical innovations.
Description
Set in the new Johto region, Pokémon Gold Version introduces 100 additional Pokémon, two new types (Dark and Steel), and a real‑time clock system that created day/night cycles and weekly events. Players start their journey in New Bark Town under Professor Elm, collecting eight Johto Gym Badges while battling the remnants of Team Rocket. After defeating the Pokémon League, the adventure continued into the Kanto region, effectively doubling the game’s size and culminating in a final battle against Red, the protagonist of the first generation.
Mechanically, Gold added breeding, held items, and the Pokégear (a multifunction device with map, phone, and radio). The version mascot is Ho‑Oh, the rainbow‑coloured Legendary bird, obtainable late in the story. Together with Silver, the pair sold over 23 million copies worldwide, making them the best‑selling Game Boy Color titles. Their legacy was reaffirmed with the Nintendo DS remakes Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver in 2009.
