Description
The Game Boy Pocket (Gold) in Australia was a limited‑release variant of Nintendo’s slimmer, improved‑screen Game Boy, sold exclusively through Toys “R” Us around 1997. It featured a metallic gold casing and, in its Australian run, was bundled with Donkey Kong Land. Production numbers are estimated at between 10,000 and 50,000 units, making it less common than standard colours but not ultra‑rare — though boxed examples are now sought after by collectors.
In Japan, gold units appeared in small promotional or themed releases, often tied to specific retailers or events. In North America and Europe, they were far less common, with most sightings coming from imports or small‑scale special promotions. This Australian bundle was one of the few documented official releases outside Japan.
