Game & Watch: The Legend of Zelda
ゲーム&ウオッチ ゼルダの35th anniversary edition of the Game & Watch brand with the original The Legend of Zelda running on a modern colour LCD screen.
Description
The Game & Watch: The Legend of Zelda was released for the 35th anniversary edition of the Zelda brand. Although it shares the form of the original Game & Watch units, it is a modern take on them with contemporary hardware. It contains several early Zelda titles that postdate the Game & Watch by several years.
The device’s software includes:
- The Legend of Zelda (1987, NES)
- Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (1988, NES)
- The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening (1993, Game Boy)
- Link version of the original Game & Watch game Vermin
- Link themed digital clock and timer
The era and design of the games are ideally suited for such a device. The inclusion of a clock and alarm means although it is a novelty product, it has some ongoing functionality. The unit operates with a modern colour LCD screen and is charged with USB-C.
When released, Nintendo had been on a bit of a roll with the Classic Mini console series. Due to the time this momentarily became in quite high demand although it was not limited in terms of production. There was companion product, Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros., which was more popular, although arguably is inferior with a smaller selection of games included. Both are truly nostalgic products with some thoughtfully designed elements.
