An enhanced update of Bokujō Monogatari: Shiawase no Uta, expanding the original Japan‑only farming life sim with refinements, new features, and balance changes. It later became the basis for the Western release Harvest Moon: Magical Melody.
Description
Bokujō Monogatari: Shiawase no Uta for World (牧場物語 しあわせの詩 for ワールド, lit. Ranch Story: Song of Happiness for World) is an updated version of the earlier Shiawase no Uta. that builds on the series’ established mix of farming, ranching, and relationship‑building, while addressing bugs and gameplay imbalances from the original release. The game was later localised in the west as Harvest Moon: Magical Melody.
The game drops players into the rural “Flowerbud Village” where the Harvest Goddess has turned to stone. To revive her, you must collect musical notes earned by completing milestones from growing crops and raising animals to befriending townsfolk and participating in festivals. Gathering at least 50 of the 100 available notes allows the player to perform the titular “magical melody” to restore the Goddess, though the game continues afterward, encouraging long‑term play.
One of the most notable features is the ability to choose the player character’s gender, with each gender offering ten potential marriage candidates of the opposite sex, plus the androgynous rival Jamie, who is marriageable regardless of the player’s gender. Farming mechanics include seasonal crops, livestock care, tool upgrades, and land expansion, while the surrounding town offers shops, NPC schedules, and events that change with the seasons.
Compared to the original Shiawase no Uta, the “for World” edition improves storage capacities, rebalances certain tasks, and removes some of the glitches that plagued the first release. It also served as the foundation for Harvest Moon: Magical Melody in North America and Europe.
