Game Boy Player Startup Disk

ゲームボーイプレーヤー スタートアップディスク

Bundled with Game Boy Player. Comes in a slightly modified Japanese NGC case, in transparent indigo with a retainer for a memory card plus a GBA cartridge. Supports GBA system link cable through the Game Boy Player hardware.

Description

The Start‑Up Disc is a GameCube optical disc containing the interface software that communicates with the Player’s hardware — a unit that attaches to the underside of the console and houses the GBA‑compatible circuitry. The disc loads a simple menu overlay that lets you start a game, adjust display settings (normal or full‑screen, screen smoothing), remap controls, and toggle rumble support for compatible titles. A very small number of GBA games detect the Game Boy Player and can enable extras such as alternate palettes or controller rumble.

The disc is region‑locked to match the GameCube it’s used with, and without it the Player hardware will not function. Because many units were separated from their discs over time, the Start‑Up Disc has become sought‑after — in some cases more valuable than the Player hardware itself.
