A GameCube and DVD player hybrid system released exclusively in Japan.
Description
The Panasonic Q DVD/Game Player is a 2001 Japan-exclusive, hybrid multimedia device that merges GameCube gaming with DVD playback. Developed by Panasonic under license from Nintendo, it has a stainless steel chassis and offers enhanced home entertainment functionality over the standard GameCube. The disc tray takes both DVD and GameCube disks, although in my opinion the major drawback was it was effectively two separate systems internally and DVD playback could not output through the digital output, which enabled 480p (progressive scan) output.
This is definitely the most elegant looking variant of the GameCube, although the tray load drive inevitably requires some repair. It’s effectively two separate systems on different boards internally, that then link together with the output. The downside being if you wish to use the GameCube’s digital AV output, the DVD player cannot also operated on this. Pretty to look at but retrospectively not the most practical.
