Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster
ブレイブリーデフォルト フライングフェアリー HD リマスターA remaster of the Nintendo 3DS RPG.
Description
Bravely Default is a traditional turn-based JRPG set in the world of Luxendarc, where four elemental crystals (Wind, Water, Fire, and Earth) have been corrupted by darkness. The story follows Agnès, a priestess tasked with restoring the crystals, alongside Tiz, a survivor of a catastrophic event; Ringabel, an amnesiac with a prophetic journal; and Edea, a principled warrior who defects from the oppressive Eternian forces. As they journey to purify the crystals, the party uncovers a multilayered narrative involving parallel worlds, moral ambiguity, and a cosmic threat that challenges their understanding of reality.
The game blends classical and novel mechanics. It features job-based character progression, allowing players to customise their characters with various classes and abilities. There is also a fairly simple, realtime-based village building/reconstruction. The unique mechanic appears in the turn based battle, as its namesake, called the Brave/Default combat system. “Brave” allows players to spend multiple turns at once to unleash a flurry of attacks, while “Default” lets players defend and store turns for later use. This allows for tactical flexibility, such as unleashing a flurry of attacks or conserving actions for a critical moment.
The original title garnered significant popularity, particularly during its Western release, as it defied the prevailing trend of highly Westernised titles and the general decline of Japanese studio releases. This remaster retains a strong stylist connection to that era, unlike other Square RPGs that have received substantial remakes. However, it elevates the original to relatively contemporary standards, aligning it with its most recent sequel a few years prior.
