Stand

スタンド

An official accessory designed to hold the Virtual Boy console securely in place, allowing players to use the system comfortably while keeping the headset stable during play.

Description

The Virtual Boy Stand was released with Virtual Boy as a dedicated support accessory for the console. Because the console itself was a tabletop headset rather than a traditional handheld or home system, the stand was essential for proper use. It consists of a fairly sturdy tripod‑style base with an angle adjustment, and a locking mount that secures the console unit. It was packaged with the console as a standard component, though replacement stands were intended to be sold separately.

The design sets the Virtual Boy to a height and angle for players to lean forward and view the stereoscopic display. The accessory is necessary for the system’s functionality, as the console cannot lay flat, nor does it have any head-mounted options. In theory the stand reduces strain on the user and prevents the headset from tipping or sliding during gameplay. Ultimately, the stand forms part of the Virtual Boy’s distinctive, unconventional design.
