Bundled in Set
Description
The Wii Remote Wrist Strap was a simple nylon safety cords attached to the base of every Wii Remote. Their purpose was to loop around the player’s wrist so that, if the remote slipped out of the hand during motion‑controlled play, it wouldn’t go flying across the room. The standard strap was light grey, matching the white Wii Remote casing. As Nintendo introduced different Wii Remote shells, the straps followed suit. Later Nintendo would also offer a small selection of colours in sets.
At launch in late 2006, Nintendo shipped remotes with a thin 0.6 mm strap. These early straps were prone to snapping under heavy force especially in games like Wii Sports where players swung the remote like a tennis racket or bowling ball. The straps were meant to be a safety fallback, but people would frequently let go of the thing resulting in reports of broken straps led to damaged TVs, lamps, and walls. In response, Nintendo introduced a reinforced 1.0 mm strap and mailed millions of replacements worldwide. The new strap looked almost identical but had a thicker weave and stronger clasp. From December 2006 onward, all Wii consoles included the sturdier strap by default.
