A charming, visually striking 2D platformer remembered for its brilliant textile-based art direction and for radically altering the franchise’s traditional gameplay mechanics. Internationally titled as Kirby’s Epic Yarn.
Description
In this whimsical adventure, Kirby is transformed into yarn and sent to Patch Land, a world entirely made of fabric, where he teams up with Prince Fluff to collect seven pieces of magic yarn and stop the villain Yin Yarn. The game’s stand out feature is surely its craft-inspired visual style, with characters and environments made of thread, felt, and buttons. Yoshi’s Woolly World (2015, Wii U) followed up with a similar style.
In a departure from the character’s signature move of inhaling enemies, Kirby uses a yarn whip to unravel foes, pull objects, and transform into shapes like a car, parachute, or submarine. It supports two-player co-op, focuses on collecting beads and treasures, and offers a relaxed, no-lives-lost style of play that makes it accessible to all ages.
