A 25th-anniversary Wii re-release of the Super Famicom Super Mario Collection (Super Mario All-Stars internationally), packaged with bonus Mario history materials.
Description
Super Mario Collection Special Pack is essentially a Wii release of the 1993 Super Famicom/SNES compilation Super Mario All-Stars. It includes four 16-bit remakes of early Mario platformers: Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels / Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 2 / Super Mario USA, and Super Mario Bros. 3. The games retain the SNES-style graphics, music, save functionality, and two-player alternating play where applicable.
The “Special Pack” part is the key collector element. The Japanese package includes the Wii software plus Super Mario History 1985–2010, consisting of a commemorative booklet and a soundtrack CD covering music and sound effects from Mario titles up to Super Mario Galaxy 2. Nintendo released the package as part of the 25th anniversary of Super Mario Bros., which originally launched on Famicom on 13 September 1985.
Controller support includes the Wii Remote held sideways, Classic Controller, and the GameCube Controller, making the game easy to play in a traditional side-scrolling style. The release was entirely a commemorative physical release in a visually distinctive Wii package.
