Modes are limited, with a focus on standard matches and a barebones single-player experience, leaving longtime fans wanting more variety and content. The polished presentation and fun local multiplayer it can leave some disappointment feeling like a stripped down version of the Mario Tennis formula. The subsequent Switch Mario Tennis Aces release three years later felt like the full realisation of this game.
