The high-speed, open-city fare-chasing sequel with fresh maps, new drivers, and gameplay twists like the Crazy Hop and multi-passenger pickups
Description
Crazy Taxi 2 is follow-up to the popular arcade-style original. This time, the action moves from the sun-soaked streets of San Francisco–inspired locales to “Around Apple” and “Small Apple,” two dense, vertical cities modelled loosely on New York. Players can choose from four new cabbies: Slash, Iceman, Cinnamon, and Hot-D; alongside returning veterans Axel, B.D. Joe, Gena, and Gus, bringing the roster to eight. The core loop remains the same: race against the clock to pick up passengers and deliver them to their destinations as quickly (and recklessly) as possible, earning tips for stylish driving.
The sequel adds several key mechanics, most notably the Crazy Hop, which lets drivers leap over traffic and obstacles to shave off precious seconds, and the ability to carry multiple passengers at once for bigger fares. The “Crazy Pyramid” mode replaces the original’s Crazy Box with a new set of mini-game challenges, unlocking extras as you progress. Licensed storefronts, a punk-rock soundtrack featuring The Offspring and Methods of Mayhem, and online leaderboards via the Dreamcast’s modem rounded out the package. As the last Crazy Taxi title released for the Dreamcast, Crazy Taxi 2 stands as both an energetic refinement of the formula and a snapshot of Sega’s arcade spirit in the console’s final days.
