A bundled educational compilation for the Sega SC‑3000 in Australia that collected six learning programs on cassette, covering typing, spelling, maths, and general knowledge.
Description
Super Tape 1 was a John Sands Electronics release for the Sega SC‑3000 home computer, distributed exclusively in Australia. It was an educational suite packaged on a single cassette, often included as a pack‑in with the computer itself. The tape contained six separate programs:
- Keyboard Learning Program (ST0500)
- Australian General Knowledge Tutor (ST0607)
- Learning the Alphabet (ST0701)
- Spelling Tutor (ST0604)
- Australian Geography Tutor (ST0605)
- Multiplication Tutor (ST0602)
Each program loaded individually from the tape, turning the SC‑3000 into a classroom‑style learning tool.
The compilation reflected John Sands’ strategy of marketing the SC‑3000 not just as a games machine but as a serious educational computer for Australian households. By tailoring content to local school subjects, including geography and general knowledge specific to Australia, this helped position the SC‑3000 as a competitor to other 8‑bit home computers of the era.
While primitive by modern standards, the programs introduced typing drills, spelling practice, and maths exercises in a colourful, interactive format that was novel for the mid‑1980s. An uniquely Australian aspect of the SC‑3000’s short but distinctive lifespan.
