Description

Sega Saturn de Hakken!! Tamagotchi Park was developed by Ancient (the studio founded by Yuzo Koshiro’s family) and published by Bandai. Unlike the handheld toys, the game takes place in a colourful, explorable park with buildings such as the Egg Room, Farm, Sandbox, Rocket, and even a Cemetery. Players can raise multiple Tamagotchi simultaneously, interacting with them by moving a cursor around the park.

The gameplay follows the familiar Tamagotchi loop of feeding, cleaning, disciplining, and playing games, but at a faster pace suited to a console. Mini‑games test happiness, intelligence, strength, and effort, while contests like “Lunch Without Leftovers” or “Time to Run” provide structured challenges. Seasonal changes occur every two in‑game days, altering the park’s palette, background music, and available meals.

A unique feature is the Sega Egg line: by raising specific Tamagotchi (such as Sekitoritchi), players can unlock eggs that hatch into Sega‑inspired characters. Their adult forms parody Sega icons, including Sonic‑like and Virtua Fighter‑like designs, echoing the Nintendo‑themed characters introduced in the Nintendo 64 Tamagotchi game. The game shipped with a special Power Memory cartridge, required for saving progress. If the preloaded save file was erased, the cartridge became unusable for this title, though it still worked with other Saturn games, a quirk that made complete copies collectible.
