Tenchi Muyo! Mimiri Onsen Yukemuri no Tabi

てんようおんせん けむりのたび

A Japan‑exclusive Sega Saturn adventure that transports the anime’s cast to a hot‑spring getaway, offering fans a fully voiced, light‑hearted slice‑of‑life story rather than a traditional game experience.

Description

Tenchi Muyo! Mimiri Onsen Yukemuri no Tabi (roughly: Hot Springs: A Steamy Journey) is a visual novel adventure game that follows Tenchi Masaki and his eclectic household of alien companions as they embark on a trip to the fictional Mimiri hot springs. Unlike traditional RPGs or action titles, the gameplay is structured around narrative progression and character interaction. Players experience the story through fully voiced dialogue sequences, with choices that influence conversations and character relationships. Notably, the game is voice‑only, dialogue is spoken aloud without on‑screen text, making it unusual even among Japanese adventure games of the era.

The tone is light‑hearted, comedic, and romantic, in keeping with the Tenchi Muyo! OVA series. Much of the humour comes from the clashing personalities of the cast: Ryoko’s brashness, Ayeka’s formality, Mihoshi’s scatterbrained antics. These interactions are transplanted into the relaxed, slightly mischievous setting of a hot‑spring getaway. The game offers romantic tension around a slice-of-life comedy that heavily leans on the established dynamics of the anime cast.

Mimiri Onsen Yukemuri no Tabi was never localised, being realised only in Japan and never ported. Contemporary it remains somewhat novel as a fully voiced Saturn adventure and its faithful character portrayals. However as a limited in scope side story, it is very much fan-orientated and fan service.
