Description
Simple 1500 Series Vol. 71: The Ren’ai Simulation 2 ~Fureai~ is the direct sequel to the earlier Natsuiro Celebration (Simple 1500 Volume 36). While most titles in the Simple 1500 series were budget-priced ports or simple arcade games, this entry is a significant outlier: it was an original production for the PlayStation hardware and despite its budget branding, began as a full-price title in terms of its development scope and initial retail positioning before being integrated into the Simple series. This high production value is evident in its detailed character art and extensive voice acting, which far exceeded the typical standards of the 1500-yen budget line.
The narrative shifts from the first game’s high school setting to a slightly older perspective, following Yahagi Shunpei, a 19-year-old “ronin” student who has failed his university entrance exams. To gain experience, he takes a summer job at a private school where he must tutor five female students to ensure they pass their own upcoming exams. The story is a refined slice-of-life romance that explores the emotional bonds formed during these high-stakes study sessions, with the player’s success as an educator directly impacting the narrative path and romantic outcomes.
The gameplay is a sophisticated character-management simulation built on a weekly scheduling system. You must carefully allocate time to tutor each girl in various academic subjects to raise their statistics while also engaging in Fureai (interaction) sessions to build intimacy. Unlike its predecessor, which was ported from PC, Fureai was built to take full advantage of the late-era PS1, resulting in a more polished interface and deeper mechanical systems. The game’s popularity eventually led to a Dreamcast port released the year after under the Simple 2000 Series DC (Vol. 3) banner, featuring higher-resolution 2D assets and refined sound quality.
