Redout Lightspeed Edition
An anti‑gravity futuristic racer, combining blistering speed, technical handling, and a wealth of tracks and modes.
Description
Redout Lightspeed Edition is set in a distant future where anti‑gravity racing has become one of the most popular sports. Players pilot high‑speed hovercraft across a wide range of circuits that span deserts, frozen landscapes, futuristic cities, and surreal environments. The sensation of speed is central to the design, with motion blur, sound design, and environmental effects combining to create an overwhelming sense of velocity. It stands as a modern homage to F‑Zero and WipEout, offering one of the most intense futuristic racing experiences of its era.
The Lightspeed Edition was the definitive console release, bundling the base game with all previously released downloadable content. This included additional tracks, new environments, expanded ship classes, and cosmetic options. The package offered more than one hundred events across eleven game modes and thirty‑five racetracks, along with seven racing teams, four speed classes, and a progression system that allowed players to upgrade ships and unlock power‑ups.
Redout employs a vibrant and stylised art direction, with glowing neon palettes and futuristic architecture. The soundtrack complements this aesthetic with electronic and ambient tracks that heighten the intensity of racing. On PC, the game also supports virtual reality, further amplifying the sense of immersion, though this feature was not included in the console editions. Gameplay is demanding and technical. Each ship has unique handling characteristics, and players must carefully manage pitch and strafing to maintain control at extreme speeds. The game features a career mode that gradually increases in difficulty, online multiplayer for up to twelve players, and special “Boss Races” that stitch together multiple tracks into a single continuous circuit.
If you’re into futuristic racers, Redout was one of the best for its era. It also provided a variety of content, had ambitious track design, but most of all conveyed speed more convincingly than any other zero‑gravity racer of its generation.
