Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration (Artbook Edition)
An action‑adventure sequel to the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot. It continues Lara Croft’s journey, following her expedition into Siberia in search of the lost city of Kitezh and the secret of immortality, pursued by the paramilitary organisation Trinity. A special edition bundled with an art book.
Description
Rise of the Tomb Raider builds on the survival‑action formula of its predecessor, expanding exploration, crafting, and combat systems. Players traverse snowy mountains, tombs, and expansive hubs, solving environmental puzzles and engaging in stealth or direct combat. Tombs, a hallmark of the series, were given greater prominence, with elaborate designs and rewards that encouraged exploration. Lara’s progression includes skill upgrades, weapon modifications, and resource gathering, blending traditional adventure mechanics with RPG‑like systems.
Visually, Rise of the Tomb Raider showcased detailed environments and dynamic weather effects, particularly on eighth generation consoles and PC releases. The story reinforced Lara’s transformation into a seasoned adventurer, balancing personal themes of legacy and obsession with large‑scale action set pieces. The game unfortunately launched only on Xbox initially. This PS4 release made up for the delay with improved graphics and the bundling of an art book.
The game received a highly positive reception, with critical praise for the refined gameplay, strong visuals, and the return of meaningful tomb exploration. Commercially, the game faced challenges due to its timed exclusivity on Xbox, the weakest of all platforms, but later releases broadened its audience. Retrospectively, it is regarded as one of the strongest entries in the modern Tomb Raider trilogy, setting the stage for Shadow of the Tomb Raider in 2018.
