You play as Lafcadio Boone, a masked priest trapped in a looping day during a lavish masquerade ball at the titular casino mansion. Each guest faces a gruesome fate, and it’s up to you to uncover the patterns of their deaths and intervene… without ever being seen. As you save lives, you gain new abilities tied to each character’s mask, gradually unlocking access to deeper layers of the mansion and its secrets.

It can be compared to Agatha Christie–style mysteries, through the use of simultaneous storytelling and a playful gothic aesthetic.The Invisible Hours also uses simultaneous storytelling, although it casts the player as an observer who rewinds and follows different threads like an interactive play, while The Sexy Brutale uses a looping day where the player actively intervenes to prevent murders and change outcomes.

The PS4 version maintains a smooth performance and intuitive controls, with PS4 Pro support providing a genuinely great experience. With its theatrical presentation, atmospheric soundtrack, and intricate design it was a standout among narrative-driven puzzle games of its generation, at times a forgotten genre.
