Resident Evil: Origins Collection
バイオハザード オリジンズコレクションA two-game survival-horror compilation of HD remasters of the GameCube remake of Resident Evil and its GameCube original prequel, Resident Evil 0. Enhanced with high-definition visuals, widescreen presentation, remastered sound, and optional modern controls.
Description
Resident Evil: Origins Collection provides a modern release of the original Resident Evil and its later-released prequel. It builds upon the two GameCube optimised releases: the extensively redesigned 2002 GameCube remake, together with Resident Evil 0, the 2002 prequel released for the same system.
Resident Evil follows S.T.A.R.S. members Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine after their unit takes refuge in a remote mansion while investigating disappearances outside Raccoon City. Chris and Jill have different inventory capacities, supporting characters, weapons, and routes through parts of the campaign, providing significant variation between playthroughs. Resident Evil 0 takes place immediately beforehand and follows rookie S.T.A.R.S. medic Rebecca Chambers and escaped prisoner Billy Coen. Its principal mechanical difference is the ability to switch between Rebecca and Billy as they explore different areas, or have to operate together during combat.
Both games retain fixed camera angles, limited inventories, save rooms, environmental puzzles, and combat in which characters normally stop moving while aiming. The remasters add newly produced high-resolution textures and character models, improved lighting, 1080p output, 5.1-channel sound, and a choice between the original 4:3 image and a modified 16:9 presentation. You can also use traditional tank controls or a modern directional control scheme. The latter can still experience abrupt directional changes in transitions between fixed camera angles.
The release brings the classic survival horror titles to modern platforms with atmospheric environments, enhanced character detail, improved sound, flexible presentation options, and preservation of the deliberate survival-horror structure. It balanced mechanics that likely feel dated to newcomers, but honestly the fixed camera angles, stationary shooting, and restricted inventories are part of the charm and identity of these games. The only thing missing is any extras that celebrate the franchise’s origins, but otherwise the new definitive version to play these two titles.
