A rapid re-release of the original that added some minor quality of life features but has a changed soundtrack that is at times laughable. So keeping this for its soundtrack lols.
Description
A reissue of the groundbreaking survival horror game. This version was created to appease fans after the delay of Resident Evil 2, and it added several new features to freshen up the experience. Most notably, it introduced an “Arrange Mode”, which shuffled enemy placements, item locations, and camera angles to challenge veterans who had memorised the original layout. A “Beginner Mode” for newcomers alternatively offered increased health, more ammo, and easier combat.
While the core gameplay remained intact the Director’s Cut added subtle refinements like new costumes and auto-aim functionality. However, it became infamous for a couple reasons. First a marketing misstep: Capcom advertised that it would include the uncensored FMV intro and death scenes from the Japanese version, but the footage remained censored in the Western release. Second, the soundtrack. Capcom replaced the original eerie, atmospheric score with a new composition credited to Mamoru Samuragochi, who later became embroiled in scandal when it was revealed he hadn’t actually written the music himself. The most notorious track, the Mansion Basement theme, became a meme for its bizarre almost clownish sound turning tense moments into unintentionally comedic ones.
