Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island Poster

A poster for the game showing Yoshi in the foreground with Baby Mario on his back, set against a bright, storybook‑style landscape, while a large, menacing blue Nep-Enut looms in the background. I have several of these in different sizes. Small (40×60 cm) and large.

Description

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island was Nintendo’s follow‑up to Super Mario World, but with a distinctive pastel, crayon‑like art style that set it apart from other platformers of the era. The game’s poster drew directly from the game’s box art, which was striking for its playful yet slightly chaotic imagery.

The artwork depicts Yoshi carrying Baby Mario, who was drawn in his red cap and diaper, clinging to Yoshi’s back. The background was a lush, cartoonish island environment, with exaggerated greenery and a whimsical, child‑like aesthetic. To the right side of the composition, a giant blue enemy Nep-Enut appears out of the water, scowling and towering over the scene, signalling the central conflict of the game. The overall style was deliberately hand‑drawn, with bold outlines and textured colouring that resembled crayons or watercolours, reinforcing the game’s storybook theme. As a promotional poster, it emphasised this unique visual identity: bright, approachable, and distinctly different from the more rendered or “serious” artwork of other mid‑1990s Super Nintendo titles.

I have a large selection of similar retail game posters from the era. These came in different sizes, some rather quite large (over a metre).
