Sid Meier’s Civilization II
A landmark 4X turn-based strategy game that refined and expanded the empire‑building formula of the original Civilization.
Description
Civilization II tasks you with guiding a civilization from 4000 BC to the near future, balancing exploration, expansion, exploitation, and extermination. You choose from 21–23 historical civilisations, each starting with a single settler, and grow your empire by founding cities, researching technologies, engaging in diplomacy, and waging war.
Key innovations over the first game included: an Isometric perspective for a clearer, more detailed map view; expanded unit system with distinct firepower and hit points; more nuanced diplomacy, including alliances, reputation tracking, and espionage; and map and scenario editors, enabling custom worlds and community‑made challenges.
The original game was released in April 1996. Purchased in Sid Meier’s Civilization II (The Collector’s Edition) bundle released later that year. Not in its own box but all other components were included.
System requirements:
- 486 50 MHz CPU or better (66 MHz recommended)
