Description
The Xbox 360 Play and Charge Cable was Microsoft’s official accessory designed to work with the Wireless Controller. It connected via USB to the console (or any powered USB port) and plugged into the controller’s battery compartment, allowing players to recharge the Xbox 360 Rechargeable Battery Pack while continuing to play.
The cable carried only power, not data. The controller remained wireless in terms of input signalling with the USB connection not used to transmit inputs to the console. This meant that even when plugged in, the controller still communicated via 2.4 GHz radio, unlike the separate Xbox 360 Wired Controller which used a full USB data connection.
The Play and Charge Cable was typically bundled with the Rechargeable Battery Pack as part of the Play and Charge Kit, though it could also be purchased separately. It became a popular accessory because the standard wireless controllers shipped with disposable AA batteries, and the kit offered a more sustainable and convenient solution.
