Need for Speed: Most Wanted

ニード・フォー・スピード・モスト・ウォンテッド

An open‑world street racer that combined high‑speed competition with cinematic police pursuits, positioning itself as both a showcase for new hardware and a return to the series’ roots in cat‑and‑mouse chases.

Description

Need for Speed: Most Wanted placed players in the fictional city of Rockport, where the goal was to climb the “Blacklist” of fifteen notorious racers. It blends open map street racing with police pursuit mechanics, positioning itself as a hybrid between arcade-style driving and open-world exploration. The game features a dynamic “Blacklist” progression system, where players challenge increasingly skilled rivals to climb the underground racing ranks.

The presentation leaned heavily on stylised full‑motion video cutscenes, featuring live actors who framed the story in a deliberately over‑the‑top manner. This gave the game a pulp‑crime atmosphere that set it apart from the purely nocturnal, tuner‑culture aesthetic of its immediate predecessors. Compared to contemporaries such as Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition or Burnout Revenge, Most Wanted offered a hybrid of open‑world exploration, structured progression, and cinematic pursuit sequences, making it feel both expansive and tightly choreographed.

Being a launch title for the Xbox 360 in Japan, this version showcased early HD rendering capabilities, with improved lighting, car models, and environmental detail compared to sixth-generation counterparts. The game ran in 720p with Dolby Digital audio. Online multiplayer supported up to four players. A pretty complete experience. EA’s strategy to anchor its racing franchise in the next-gen launch window saw Most Wanted provide both a graphical benchmark and a gameplay evolution of the Need for Speed series.
