Description
A Kickstarter-funded homage to ’90s JRPGs. The sun-baked world of Umbra where turn-based battles hinge on paired “Warriors” and “Protectors”. Monsters roam visibly (no random encounters), and crafting your own ammunition fleshed out exploration. Though its retro pixel art, environmental puzzles, and non-linear story drew praise, pacing hiccups and balance issues left some early adopters wanting more. In 2018 the team rolled out the “Should Have Been Edition,” retitled simply Earthlock, restoring cut side-quests, enriching character animations and arcs, rebalancing combat pairs, and polishing cutscenes. It transforms Festival of Magic into a tighter, more ambitious indie RPG that’s earnt a serious playthrough.
