Universal Game Link Cable Set

ゲームボーイ共通通信ケーブルセット

A retail set of the Game Boy Color Link Cable that supports the Game Boy Pocket/Light/Color with an attached Universal Game Link Adapter for backwards compatibility with original Game Boy systems.

Description

The Universal Game Link Cable Set is the official Nintendo accessory bundle released to unify connectivity across the different generations of Game Boy hardware. It was packaged to ensure that owners of both the original DMG‑01 Game Boy and the later Pocket, Light, and Color models could link together without needing separate cables.

The set includes two components. The first is a Game Boy Color Link Cable, which uses the smaller connector introduced with the Pocket and carried forward to the Light and Color. This cable supports multiplayer play and data transfer between those systems. The second is the Universal Game Link Adapter, which attaches to the larger link port of the first‑generation (DMG‑01) Game Boy. By combining the adapter with the Color Link Cable, players could connect an original Game Boy to newer models, maintaining compatibility across the handheld’s evolving hardware.

At the time of release, the set was marketed as a practical solution for households or groups with mixed models, particularly important for trading in Pokémon or playing two‑player titles like Tetris. By bridging the gap between connector standards it was also a way to simplify product inventory and avoid consumer confusion.
